Google AI Search Now Enables Direct Hotel Reservations and Flight Tracking

Google has opened a direct booking lane inside AI Mode, with hotel chains now completing reservations through conversational search. According to Google's own blog, the capability started rolling out in the U.S.

Google AI Search Now Enables Direct Hotel Reservations and Flight Tracking

this month, integrated with launch partners including Hilton, Wyndham, and Choice Hotels International.

The booking surface

The mechanics are specific. A user describes a trip in plain English. AI Mode returns a visual list — room photos, rates, guest ratings, reviews. Selection triggers a "Continue on Google" flow. Room type, cancellation policy, and payment are confirmed via Google Pay. The hotel or booking platform acts as merchant of record.

Launch partners cover five brands at rollout: Alaska Airlines / Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines, and Lufthansa Group are slated to follow in the coming weeks. Points and miles rates are globally available. Flight price tracking spans more than 180 countries and territories, with pricing pulled from over 300 partner airlines and travel sites.

Anna Scozzafava, chief data, AI & technology officer at Choice Hotels, framed the integration as positioning franchisees "to compete and win in the age of agentic commerce." Choice was reportedly the first major hotel company to migrate its entire system infrastructure to the cloud — the prerequisite, in practice, for plugging into agentic checkout at this speed.

The 94% bottleneck

The parallel data point is harder to ignore. A study reported this week found that 94% of hotel websites are not accessible to AI search agents, citing lack of direct information on rooms, rates, and policies. The same study recorded 119% year-over-year growth in AI-driven travel traffic in July 2026.

Two numbers. One funnel. AI-sourced travel demand is scaling at triple-digit rates. The hotel inventory it can parse is not.

What changes for visual content and conversion

AI Mode's shortlist is a visual shortlist. Room photos, amenity imagery, guest-shared visuals — all stacked side by side against competing properties inside a conversational interface. The hero photography that drives conversion on a brand's own direct booking page is now also the bidding asset for AI inclusion.

For hotels running paid social, metasearch, or direct booking funnels, the structural question is whether room types, cancellation terms, and loyalty point conversions are machine-readable at the page level. Schema markup, exposed rate data, image sitemaps — these are no longer technical housekeeping. They are the entry ticket.

Audit checklist for this week:

  • Schema markup on room types, nightly rates, and amenity lists
  • Direct image sitemaps for hero and room photography, not CDN-gated
  • Loyalty program rate pages exposed to crawl, not behind login walls
  • Cancellation and fee policy text present in crawlable HTML

Hotels that clear these four items will surface inside the agent's shortlist. The other 94% will not — regardless of how strong the photography is.
